Zhengzhou Research Institute of Chalco is the unique research institute in Chinese light metals industry. It has become the R&D base of significant, key and front technology of new process, materials and equipments for Chinese aluminum and magnesium industries as well as the basic research and hatching base of such original Sci-tech achievements, which has passed the accreditation of the Quality and EHS Management System certification of China Quality Certification Center (CQC) .China National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Light Metal, which is one of China’s affiliations to ISO, is also affiliated with Zhengzhou Research Institute, mainly in charge of the national quality supervision and inspection for light metal, products quality assessment and arbitration for aluminum and magnesium industries including 77 products of 12 categories.
Zhengzhou Research Institute is always facing the development and strategic plan of aluminum industry, and addressing itself to independent innovation with high responsibility to provide technical support for realizing the harmonious development of natural resources, environment, economy and community. The institute has a bunch of outstanding research talents and a good cooperative team for technical innovation for aluminum and magnesium industries. It also has established the world’s largest pilot alumina plant, national aluminum industry test base with the leading-edge technologies in the world and the world’s unique test base for comprehensive utilization of bauxite as well as China National Engineering Research Center for Aluminum Metallurgy and Postdoctoral Research Workstation of Chalco. The institute has set up an integrated R&D system covering basic research, technological development, expanded experiment, industrial trial, technical engineering and industrialization including comprehensive utilization of bauxite resource, alumina production, aluminum smelting and aluminum-magnesium alloys manufacturing.
Up to now, it has already completed 927 research projects including some of 863 Program and 973 Program, and obtained 287 research achievements, in which 11 projects have won the national awards of scientific & technological achievement and 154 projects have achieved the awards of provincial and ministerial scientific & technological achievement. It has applied 337 patents. A bunch of significant independent innovative technologies and achievements such as 280 KA Aluminum Reduction Cells, Intensifying Bayer Process Digestion of Diasporic Bauxite, Bayer Beneficiating Process, Sandy Alumina and Wetted Cathode, Reversing Process of Bauxite, Comprehensive Energy Saving Technology of Aluminum Reduction Cells, Detoxifying Process of Spent Potliner, etc., have made a strong support for the harmonious and sustained development of aluminum industry. Meanwhile, the institute has always committed itself to the research and development of the leading-edge strategic technology so as to become a leader in aluminum industry.
The institute is striving to achieve the goal of win-win between the R&D and aluminum production by focusing on the high- tech R&D and further promoting aluminum industry expanding and swinging. In 2007, our realized sales revenue is RMB460 million, the economic strength is in the front top of research institutions of non-ferrous metals industry in China. A number of high-tech products have been widely applied in such fields as national defense, military industry, aerospace, aviation and national key projects.
On September 13, 2006, Academician Zhou Guangzhao, the former vice chairman of National People’s Congress, the honorary chairman of China Association for Science & Technology, made an inspection of the Institute, and highly appraised the S&T innovative model of the combination of enterprises, universities and research institutes, and the Institute’s outstanding contributions to China’s aluminum industry.
The institute has made a great contribution to S&T progress of human civilization and aluminum industry with production of independent innovation, also provided strong technical support for Chalco to strategically convert into an international multi-metals mining corp., speed up to build harmonious Chalco into a first-class super corporation group and a century-old shop. Now, we are marching forward towards the goals of “being an innovative, international, and comprehensive First-class R&D base for aluminum industry, and becoming a technical leader in the world’s aluminum industry.”
